City of Johnston NW 70th Avenue Reconstruction

Background

Hired by the City of Johnston, IA, we developed a multi-phased, multi-year program for the reconstruction of this 4-mile long arterial roadway.

Approach

Taking continued community growth and overall project objectives into consideration, our team’s proposed design included the installation of multiple roundabouts along the corridor. Responsibilities to do so required private utility coordination, joint utility trench design, right-of-way acquisition assistance, wetland delineation/mitigation, and construction staging and administration. As an essential roadway, public involvement and stakeholder coordination was vital to minimizing impacts and access during construction, and included multiple expansion projects with Camp Dodge as well as Pioneer Hi-Bred International.

Results

As a result, overall safety throughout the corridor, both vehicular and pedestrian, was improved, operational capacity increased, and public inquiries and concerns addressed.
