Foth was recently honored with a Bentley Be Inspired Award for work on a contaminated sediment project on the Fox River in Wisconsin. The project was selected as one of the top three most innovative projects in the world in the “Innovation in Land Development Engineering and Management” category. The award recipients were selected from submissions by more than 300 organizations in 43 countries.
The Lower Fox River in Neenah, Wisconsin, had high concentrations of PCB contamination due to discharges from paper mills and other industries. The Foth team used Bentley solutions to develop an optimized remedy that was more effective and environmentally protective than the originally proposed, all-dredge remedy. The development of this optimized remedy shortened the implementation time by nearly five years and accelerated ecosystem recovery, resulting in a cost savings of nearly $50 million.
The jurors were particularly impressed with Foth’s unique use of technology, its innovative approach to the engineering challenge, and the integration of Bentley products with other technologies.
